These are oil paintings made from 1985-2005. Before art school, I painted large abstract oils (see three of these on the "sold" page.) Applying to grad school I made a second portfolio of trompe l'oeil still-life oil paintings and was accepted. For many reasons SFSU was my only option so I finished graduate school with large representational oil paintings of people rapt in television screens (which fascinated me.) After graduating, lacking resources to hire models and little interest in copying photographs, I began drawing primates at the Oakland Zoo. A theme of "Future (screens)/Primative (monkeys) led me to make oil paintings from the gestural zoo drawings I made while observing lively primates. The paintings became more abstracted as I worked from quick gesture drawings.
