ARTISTS STATEMENT 2026
My current oil paintings evolve from a curiosity about relationships between people, dogs, and sometimes landscapes. As a figurative painter, painting animals engages my love of anatomy and motion; the muscular cattle dog twisting and leaping in the arms of its keeper, who is struggling for equilibrium. Dogs offer visuals of lively interchange. In a time of political and social division, pets bring strangers into focus, and even, into a pleasant conversation. Animals connect us in a way that opens the dialogue to compassion and our deepest longings for happiness.

Happiness, 30"x24", oil on canvas, 2026. Anatomy is a visual language. The greatest hope I have for our country is simply that Americans will have choices in the making of their lives. There is tension in this embrace, but joy in knowing that the struggle is worth the effort when affection is the result. As Americans, we are neighbors, and the struggle MUST be worth the effort.
