JUDE PITTMAN. ARTISTS STATEMENT 2025
My current oil paintings evolve from a curiosity about relationships between people, dogs, and sometimes
landscapes. As a figurative painter, painting animals engages my love of anatomy and motion; the muscular
cattle dog twisting and leaping in the arms of its keeper, who is struggling for equilibrium.
Dogs offer visuals of lively interchange. In a time of political and social division, pets bring strangers into focus, and even, into a pleasant conversation.
Animals connect us in a way that opens the dialogue to compassion and our deepest longings for happiness.
